Safe Pets Program

It is unfortunate  that many victims of domestic violence delay seeking safety for themselves and their children due to their fear of what may happen to their pets. Studies have also found that animals are abused in 88 percent of the families in which violence is an issue.

NAHS developed the Safe Pets Program (SPP) in response to these devastating facts. When victims enter a shelter for themselves and their families, their pets find safety through the NAHS Safe Pets Program. Through SPP, animals are granted a temporary safe haven from violence, and victims are able to begin to put the pieces of their lives back together.
