Adopt a Cat

Listed below are the cats currently available for adoption at NAHS. Kittens under the age of 5 months are typically not listed because they find new homes quickly. If you're interested in kittens under the age of 5 months, please call the shelter for more information. The list of available cats is updated frequently, so please check the site often. For more information our adoption process, click here. Bert 7Y 0M Domestic Shorthair Male Available No

Hi there, I'm Bert!  I'm  a friendly and affectionate guy in search of a warm, loving family to welcome me into their home.  My life before I came to NAHS is pretty much a mystery.  Someone left me in a box outside the shelter without any information about my life or why they needed to give me up.  It's a sad story, but I don't let it get me down.  I love being around people and enjoy all kinds of attention.  I might be able to live with another cat and maybe even a calm, friendly dog.  Because of my outgoing and tolerant nature, children in my new home can be any age.

Calliope 5Y 1M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

My fancy name means "muse." I am sweet and loving and ready to inspire you all day long. I'm also quite outgoing and enjoy playing with feather wand toys. The best home environment for me would be one where I can be the only pet. I like to soak up all the love for myself. Won't you let me be your muse?

Cat Benetar 9Y 6M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

I’m a quiet girl searching for a home to match. My previous family moved into a home where I wasn’t allowed, and that made me very sad. So here I am again, starting from the beginning. I enjoy being petted, especially on my belly and behind my ears. I also like to play with toys. I think because I’m shy children in my new (and hopefully forever) home should be at least 8 years old. I might enjoy another calm cat, but I don’t think living with a dog should be in my future.

Catarina 3Y 9M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

Some people might say that I'm a stereotypical cat, coming to you when I want attention.  What's wrong with being the stereotypical cat?  I just ask that I'm not bothered while I'm sleeping.  I'm generally pretty calm, but when the mood strikes me, I like to chase little mouse toys. I don't mind some other cats, but I'm not too sure about dogs; if you ask me, they're big, clumsy, noisy, and they smell weird.  I think children in my new home should be at least 8 years old.

Fifi 7Y 0M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

Bonjour mes amis! My name is Fifi, and I am one sweet girl who enjoys being adored and pampered by my human companions. When the mood strikes, I can be quite playful and sometimes rambunctious, especially if catnip and mouse toys are involved. Please don't ask me to share my new home with other pets -- I really don't care for them. It's all about me; can you blame me for wanting you all to myself? If there are children in my new home, I think it's best if they're at least 8 years old.

Gypsy 5Y 8M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

Hi there, my name is Gypsy!  Don't you just love my unique coloring?  I think it gives me a lot of character.  I came to NAHS because my owners didn't have enough time for me, so now I'm looking for a family that is going to give me all the love and attention I deserve.  I can be a bit shy at first, but once I warm up to you I am very affectionate and playful.  I might be okay living with another friendly, mellow cat and a calm, gentle dog might be fine as well.  Because I can be a little shy at first, I think children in my new home should be at least 5 years or older.

Hazel & Marmalade 6Y 2M Domestic Longhair & Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

We are two very sweet cats that need to go to our new home together. You see, we have been together our whole lives and can be shy in new situations. Our new home should be on the calm side because of this. We lived with other cats in our previous home but we aren't too sure about dogs. If you're looking to add two great cats to your family, stop by and meet us soon!

Jozzlyn 6Y 9M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

So I found myself roaming the streets of Naperville all by myself; I was scared and confused! Since I came to NAHS, my life has taken a turn for the better.  Everyone is so nice to me, but there's no place like home. I'm sweet and playful, but I'll need a family who's experienced with cats.  I'm the type of girl who'll let you know when I've had enough attention. I'm okay with other gentle cats, but no dogs, please!

Kayden 7Y 1M Domestic Longhair Male Available No

I was found as a stray and after my adventure outdoors, I have decided that is no life for me.  What I need is a soft bed in a home where I can stay inside all the time.  Though I wouldn't mind a nice perch where I can look outside!  If you're wondering why my ears look a little different, it's because I have a history of ear hematomas.  Because of this, my new owners will need to be very diligent about cleaning my ears at least once per week to prevent me from getting ear infections.  I'm a very friendly cat and I can live with children of all ages, other cats, and maybe even a dog.

Lady Elaine 4Y 9M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

I'm Lady Elaine!  It's a regal name for an elegant girl like me.  I'm pretty easygoing and will do best in a nice quiet home where I can relax and find a comfortable spot to nap.  I may be okay with another cat but I don't know how I'd do with a dog.  I will add a touch of elegance to any home I go in!

Loretta 1Y 11M Domestic Shorthair Female Available

If it weren't for the kindness of strangers, I might not be here (or anywhere) to tell my story. I was found in an Oklahoma cornfield nursing a litter of newborn kittens. When I came to NAHS (after a long ride with a bunch of dogs), I'd really never had anyone to care about me. It's taken me a while to get used to attention, but sometimes I even ask for it now. I need a very patient, understanding family who willl let me get used to new surroundings on my own schedule. Going to a new home where nothing is familiar to me will be stressful and scary. When I'm comfortable and trusting, I'm quite playful and curious. I'd be best in a calm home with older kids.

Magoo 5Y 7M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

One day, I'm living in a nice, loving home and the next…well let's just say my previous family decided to have a new baby and it was a little too stressful for me. In my new home, a quiet and calm lifestyle would fit me best. I am very shy, so children should be at least 8 years or older. I also think I would do best if I were the only pet in your life. I can be very sweet and affectionate once I feel comfortable, all I need is a chance for you to get to know me.

Meadow 1Y 1M Domestic Shorthair Female Available No

My journey began as a stray: cold, hungry, unwanted… and pregnant. Life couldn't have been much worse. That's a memory now, and life can begin anew. My foster family describe me as playful, friendly, and affectionate. I also have my curious (some might say nosy) side, as all cats do. I'm gentle, so I'd probably be okay with children of most any age, as long as they understand how to treat a kitty. I do not want another cat in my new home, and I'm not too sure I want a dog either. I've never met one, so I can't say for certain.

Missy 10Y 4M Domestic Shorthair Female Available Front

I was brought here because my owner had to move and couldn't take me with.  I just don't get it...why would anyone move where they couldn't take their pets along?  After all, a pet is a family member, right?  Oh well, onto my next adventure in life.  I'm a very sweet and mellow cat who is looking for a family that will accept me just the way I am.  A quiet, relaxing lifestyle is what I'm into and a calm, peaceful home is what I'm searching for.  If there are any children in my new home, I would like for them to be older. I'm not a huge fan of other animals, so I'd be happiest as your one and only. I really hope you will take the time to get to know me; I promise it will be worth it.

Phoenix 0Y 9M Domestic Shorthair Male Available No

Life sure is full of surprises; some good, some not so good.  As you can imagine, a new rambunctious puppy coming into the picture was one of those "not so good" events that resulted in me being brought here.  Oh well, onto bigger and better things, like me finding a calm and quiet home where I can be myself.  My previous owners said I am playful, gentle, mellow, shy, and talkative at times.  I may be able to live with another friendly cat, but no dogs for me please (I hope you can understand).  Because of my shy nature, it would be best if children are a bit older.

Rocky 9Y 0M Domestic Longhair Male Available No

I'm sweet, handsome, playful, friendly, and charming…what more could you ask for in a pet?  My previous owners had to bring me here because they developed allergies to me.  They were sad to say goodbye, but they had a lot of nice things to say about me.  They said I'm a very loving cat who gets along with everybody and I'm not shy around new people, so I should fit into any home just fine.  I may be able to live with another cat, a calm, friendly dog and children of any age.

Sassy 6Y 1M Domestic Shorthair Female Adopted! No

What's a nice girl like me doing in a place like this? Not that there's anything wrong with being here; it's actually quite nice. But, you know the old saying, "There's no place like home." My previous family had nice things to say about me: I'm very tidy; I like feather toys and catnip; I enjoy being petted on my head and back. I also respond to my name, something a lot of cats don't do (or refuse to do). I've lived with another cat, but never a dog, and I'm gentle so I'd be good with kids of most any age.

Scooter 5Y 1M Domestic Shorthair Male Available No

My name might be Scooter, but I don’t think it’s because I like to zip around on two-wheeled machines.  That actually sounds a little scary and fun at the same time.  I’m more of a homebody.  I enjoy watching movies, playing with a great toy, or just snuggling.  I was found as a stray, but now I have a chance at a great life. I do require a lifetime special diet because I have some low-grade kidney issues. I'm a gentle guy searching for a calm, understanding family.  Since I do need the special diet, I should be the only pet in the house.

Scrabble 8Y 1M Domestic Longhair Female Adopted! No

As life begins, no cat (or any other animal) thinks he or she will end up in a shelter searching for a home. But here I am. My family loved me, but they couldn’t keep me when they moved. To help me find a new home, they did tell NAHS about my personality, and likes and dislikes. Here we go:  I'm affectionate, chatty, cuddly, friendly, and tidy. I'm used to living in a noisy household. I like toy mice, catnip, and chasing the laser light, but I don't like the vacuum cleaner. I've been told that I'm smart, and sometimes I can be grumpy. I might be okay living with another cat, but I've never met a dog. Since I haven't lived with children before, I think any kids in my new home should be older. That's me in a nutshell. Now what are you waiting for?

Simon 0Y 8M Domestic Shorthair Male Adopted! No

Feed me. Play with me. Buy me something. Stand up. Sit down. Are you doing what I say? You should because my name is Simon; everyone should do what "Simon Says." Seriously, though, you don't always need to do what I say. My requirements are few: a safe, loving home and family; good food; and fun and games. Like all kitties, I deserve to be treated with respect. Don't you agree? Simon says, "Visit me soon!"

Sparkplug 2Y 9M Domestic Shorthair Male Available No

When I was a kitten someone discovered that I had crawled up beneath their car's hood searching for warmth -- that's how I got my name.  Even though I'm a grown up now, I think it still suits me. I'm a very friendly guy who enjoys daily adulation, playing with toys when I'm in the mood, watching the neighborhood action from a safe spot inside my own house, and routine naps. I'm pretty gentle, so I'd probably be okay sharing my home with children of almost any age. Living with another cat or dog has crossed my mind, but I've not lived with either, so I really don't know if I'd like it. I do require a lifetime prescription diet, and it's important that my new family be prepared for that.

Sugar & Spice 0Y 10M Domestic Shorthair Female Adopted! No

First things first, we are a bonded pair which means that we will need to be adopted together.  Once you meet us, you'll understand why...we compliment each other very well!  One of us (Sugar) is a little more outgoing and comfortable around people, while the the other (Spice) is a bit shy and nervous when it comes to being around new people and experiencing new things.  It might take a little while for us to feel really comfortable in our new home, but having each other will make the adjusment much easier.  We may be able to share our new home with another friendly cat, but a dog might be too much.  If you have room in your home and hearts for two loving cats, please consider us!
